I love this poster from the 1925 Florentine Book Fair. All of those books in front of the beautiful Duomo remind me of the modern day book stall I visited a couple of years ago.
The poster, created by Benedetti, is in my copy of a special little book by Theodore W. Koch. Only 1,000 copies of Mr. Koch’s gem were printed in 1926 for subscribers. I know very little about the subscriptions except that inquiries were sent to: Librarian, Northwestern University. The Director of the Northwestern Library at that time was none other than, Mr. Koch.
The book highlights his notes from various book fairs and exhibits, much like a book blogger would write today. Only with much more detail and in a very formal writing style.
Maybe I’ll unpack more bookish morsels like this in the coming weeks as I work through the boxes of “books on books” I bought last summer. Let the fun begin.
Enjoy,
JT
